Last Saturday was a great day in Long Beach. Elizabeth and Jeremy got married at the Long Beach Museum of Art. Jeff Calbom helped out with this wedding and was great to work with. I highly recommend getting married here. I’ve shot at this venue at least half a dozen times and I love it every time. Not to mention that it’s really close to my home. 
A little getting ready fuss. Notice 2 helping her with the dress, 1 holding the veil, and another feeding her. This is pretty typical of how these things go. Lots of fun!

…and, no one knows who this masked man was. He snuck into the wedding and danced with a few brides maids and then dashed away into the night. (j/k). 
All in all it was a great day. Congrats to Elizabeth and Jeremy.

My wedding yesterday was awsome! Britney from Turn Loose the Art helped me out on this one. Britney started out with Annette at her mom’s house. I started with the guys at the Standard Hotel in Los Angeles. I must say, if you are going to stay anywhere in LA, this is THE place to stay. Funky and cool. And, it has a pool, bar and lounge on the roof top that is awesome. After that, we headed to Union Station for the ceremony and reception.

Last Saturday, Laura & Corey had a beautiful wedding starting out at St. Cornelius Catholic Church. With the reception at Eagles Nest Club House at the Naval Golf Course in Cypress. Corey is just out of the Navy, and their story that lead up to this day was very romantic. All in all it was a great day in SoCal. And, I want to thank Stephanie Williams again for the 2nd shooter help on this wedding.

The lighting was sweet for the bride and groom portraits. I think I thanked Laura about 10 times for providing such an awesome photographic experience for me.
These guys were responsible for hooking me up with Laura & Corey. I shot Liz & Brian’s wedding back in 2006. It’s great fun to see clients from the past!
And, this was one of the last shots I took. I just asked them to stand under the heat lamp outside. I really like this photo. This is straight out of the camera. No photoshop was done to this image.

I’m really looking forward to my next wedding. The couple is getting married at Union Station in Los Angeles. Should be fun!

This was my first wedding of 2008. Heather & David were so easy-going and great to work with. And, I have to thank Stephanie Williams for 2nd shooting on this one. The whole wedding, from start to finish, was at the Garden Room in Garden Grove. The other great thing about this wedding, is it was early in the day, so I still had time to enjoy the beatiful day that day.

On a photographers internet forum of which I am a part, the creator of the forum had an idea. Besides being a brilliant photographer, Huy Nguyen is also a guy who thinks outside of the box. He challenged the forum to go to your local city hall, and photograph couples getting married on Valentine’s Day. There are photographers all over the states who were participating in this event. So far, the results I have seen are amazing. I arrived around noon. The place was packed with people wanting to tie the knot. So, I simply asked for permission, and shot. The city of Norwalk had a large tent set up, with partitioned areas for people to say their vows in front of a Justice of the Peace.
The experience was very difficult on many levels. Just getting out the door to go do it was a strain on me. It’s so easy to think of 10,000 reasons not to go do it. I have so many things to do already, why would I want to go do this? But, after a little of negotiation with myself, I just simply picked up my cameras, and went. Once I was there, it was a little challenging. Doing something like this defintely takes you out of your comfort zone. And, as someone who shoots glitzy, fancy weddings all the time, it was creatively challenging to break that down and try to catch the essence of a simple civil wedding.
What I realized, or maybe knew but forgot, is that a wedding is not about how much money you spend, or having a Vera Wang dress, the essence of a wedding is a shared love between to human beings. It’s that simple.
I feel so honored that these 3 couples allowed me to barge in on their lives unplanned and unannouced. Imagine a dude walking up to you with big cameras dangling off his shoulders and asking if he can take pictures of you. It might feel strange for them, and it felt a little strange for me. But, it was well worth the risk I took to do it.

Also, as a gift to each couple who were so gracious to allow me to photograph them, without even really knowing what I was up to, I took them outside and did a quick mini-portrait session with each of them.

Zoe and Michael were my last wedding in 2007. They got married at the Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes Estates. Then off we went to the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach for the reception. I’m not even close to finishing with this wedding, but I took some time out to get a few of my favorties on my blog as a teaser for Zoe & Michael and their family. I know they are anxious to see at least a few.
…and this I hadn’t seen before. But, the groom got handcuffed for the garter removal. It was hilarious!
I have some availability between Jan - Mar. I’d like to fill those dates. I’ll be offering a promotion soon, but in the meantime I’d like to simply have some fun.
